COR Team Lead

I have been with the ACSA since 2015. My health and safety experience spans 18 years, and includes retail, construction, hospitality and manufacturing industries. I’ve earned both the National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Certificate. I anticipate challenging the CRSP exam in 2017. My favourite aspect of being a safety practitioner is having the ability to help prevent someone from getting hurt or killed at work. I love architecture, especially Frank Lloyd Wright, so in my spare time I love travelling to old cities with mid-century architecture.

My time with the ACSA started in 2007, and through the years I have worked in a variety of departments. I have obtained the Health and Safety Administrator (HSA) designation, and completed the Supervisory Development Citation program. Currently, I am working towards my OH&S Certificate through the University of Alberta. I have been working with the COR department since 2011 and have been in the role of Audit Review Analyst since 2015. My favourite things in life are traveling (when I can) and spending time with my family which keeps me pretty busy. I enjoy being able to help and assist our members with their health and safety management systems and being able to help prevent someone from getting hurt through education.

I joined the ACSA’s COR Department in May, 2016 after a varied career that included time as a primary teacher with the Edmonton Public School Board, a tradesperson, a health and safety advisor, and an occupational health and safety manager. As well as a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Alberta, I earned the National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation. Currently, I am working towards the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Certificate. My favourite part about being a safety practitioner is helping to ensure that workers get home safely. And I am an Oilers fanatic, so I love watching their games. I also enjoy a range of outdoor sports and watching local music talent at live shows throughout Edmonton.

Prior to joining the ACSA. I worked as a safety practitioner for a consulting company, and before that as a health and safety administrator at an oil and gas services company. I’ve obtained the Health and Safety Administrator (HSA) designation and I’m working towards the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Certificate. As a safety practitioner, I enjoy working with other safety professionals, who then influence safety for workers. As a personal safety philosophy, I believe people should slow down and take their time in both their work places and personal lives. Outside of work, I enjoy snowboarding, yoga, running and camping.

I’ve been with the ACSA’s COR department for nearly two years. I completed the Occupational Health and Safety Diploma at NAIT, and will begin working on converting that into a degree this fall. The best part about being a safety practitioner is working with different companies on their safety programs and providing advice to keep people safe. But when I’m not at work, I like spending time outdoors either mountain biking or snowboarding.

In 2017, I celebrated my 5th anniversary with the ACSA, of which 4 have been in the COR department. During my time in the field as a tradesperson, I began to understand and appreciate the need for education in health and safety to prevent workers from being hurt. I completed my OH&S Certificate from the University of Alberta in March, 2015 and am currently working towards my HSA designation. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my partner and young daughter, laughing, practicing yoga, and appreciating the outdoors.

I recently graduated from the OH&S Diploma program at NAIT. I chose a career in Occupational Health and Safety because my grandfather was fatally injured on a worksite and I never even had the chance to meet him.  My goal is to help prevent fatalities from occurring and ensure that families won’t have the same burden of losing a family member that my family had to endure. I was very fortunate to have been chosen by the ACSA to become a summer student for the Learning Services department. I am grateful for all the opportunities that were provided to me during my summer work term. It is a privilege to become a full-time member of the ACSA’s COR department as a COR Audit Review Analyst.

After moving to Alberta in 2010, I worked with Enform’s Safety Audit and Certifications department as a COR Reviewer. Later, I worked with Nexen Energy as a Health and Safety Analyst at head office and in the field in Northeastern, BC and Balzac, AB. My career with the ACSA’s COR department started in October 2016 and I have been putting to good use my B.BA., NCSO, and CRSP qualifications. I chose to work in safety because I enjoy having an impact on preventing incidents from occurring in the workplace. I enjoy travelling and play bass guitar in a band in my spare time.
