Backgrounder: ACSA 2024 Conference

ACSA 2024 Conference | Safety Foundations: Constructing a Culture of Excellence

The Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA) is hosting its sold-out annual conference on November 6 and 7 at the River Cree Resort in Edmonton. The ACSA team designed this two-day event to provide members, partners and Albertans with practical strategies to address challenges in Alberta’s construction industry.

This year’s theme, Safety Foundations: Constructing a Culture of Excellence, focuses on foundational learnings and experiences to improve workplace health and safety. More than 50% of serious injuries occur among first-year workers in construction, and over two-thirds of workers are concerned about psychological health and safety. The conference will provide actional steps to address these hazards and their impacts on people, communities, and the industry.

What can attendees expect?

The ACSA 2024 Conference offers educational sessions, keynote speakers, and panel discussions focused on the challenges and interests of construction business owners, front-line workers and health and safety representatives’ encounters. These experts have partnered with ACSA to share learnings, lead discussions, and deliver takeaways that facilitate action attendees can implement in their workplaces.

Speakers and presenters sharing safety and industry insights

The ACSA 2024 Conference features industry and subject matter experts from across Canada, who will provide legislative fundamentals, case studies and best practices.

Randy Spracklin, a business owner and star of HGTV Canada’s Rock Solid Builds, will share his insights and experience on industry challenges, including the critical issue of high injuries among first-year workers. He will also provide solutions drawn from his experience in Newfoundland.

Kevin Rempel, Canadian Paralympian, helps leaders and workers build confidence, adopt healthy and consistent behaviours, and accept radical responsibility to navigate change. He will connect last year’s focus on psychological health and safety with this year’s theme of culture of excellence.

The ACSA Partner Panel, hosted by ACSA Chief Executive Officer Mark Hoosein, will feature key industry partners discussing workplace health and safety challenges with attendees in Alberta construction and exploring potential solutions with attendees.

About ACSA

With over 56,000 member companies, the Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA), a member-focused, industry-funded not-for-profit organization, is Alberta’s largest certifying partner. Recognizing that safety is a collective effort, ACSA works with members and industry experts to foster safety and business excellence.

In 2023, ACSA provided training to over 21,500 workers, giving them the skills and knowledge to reduce incidents and improve the safety culture in their organizations. ACSA is a certifying partner for the Certificate of Recognition (COR), which helps companies reduce injury claims, with COR-certified companies, on average, seeing a 14 per cent decrease in lost-time claims (AB COR Research, Partnership for Work Health and Safety).
