Injury Prevention Campaign: First-Year Worker Safety

More than half of all injuries in Alberta construction are to workers in their first year at a company, regardless of age or experience. ACSA is rallying the industry to reduce these injuries by promoting crew camaraderie through the multi-year Injury Prevention Campaign.

Access practical resources and on-site engagement tools to address the first-year risk window with your crews:

First-year worker pop quiz

Q: Is a first-year worker the same as a young worker?

No. A first-year worker is anyone new to their company. Risk is tied to transition, not age.

Q: What is Alberta’s construction industry saying about ACSA’s Injury Prevention Program?

“Some of the answers you had to guess from were hilarious! The crew always got a good giggle. Some questions were a little harder as well but it was good to have to do some research if we didn’t know the answers.”

– Safety Showdown, Team Leader

“Used the provided resources for toolbox meetings and brought great discussions from the safety questions.”

– Safety Showdown, Participant

“Life will give you many different choices and opportunities but at the end of the day you only have one body so you’ve got to treat it well.”

– Adam (Crew Brew advice to first-year workers)
