As the Health and Safety Specialist, you will hold a key position within our company and will be accountable for providing organizational strategic leadership, direction, guidance and assurance for all, health and safety programs and initiatives.  The primary focus and responsibility will be the review, development, implementation and monitoring of Calmont’s Health and Safety Program. Other job duties will include, but are not limited to:

·         Verifying that H&S procedures are in use, functional and efficient.

·         Investigating accidents or incidents to discover causes and handle all aspects of Workers’ Compensation.

·         Keeping records or incidents and accidents, compiling, analyzing and producing monthly statistics.

·         Developing, implementing and maintain all required statistical tracking systems.

·         Acting as liaison with governing bodies related to H&S ensuring compliant with mandatory regulations.

·         Carrying our regular site inspections to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented.

·         Completing audits, reviewing findings and working toward implementing changes.

·         Carrying our risk assessments and considering how risks could be reduced.

·         Outlining safe operational procedures which identify and take account of all relevant hazards.

·         Overseeing a comprehensive fire safety program for all locations, undertake the planning and implementation of fire drills and other evacuation procedures.

·         Provide strategic feedback and direction to managers and other key staff to establish and maintain a programme of continuous improvement in the management of Health and Safety within their areas of responsibility.

·         Train, coach and conduct presentations to employees on various tasks to ensure all employees meet company training requirements for their specific role.

·         Researching and writing policies, procedures and reports related to H&S.

·         Traveling to different branches throughout Alberta regularly.


2 – 5 years experience in health & safety Specialist role in progressive, customer service-oriented organization of reasonable size and complexity.
Certificate or Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety considered and asset.
Previous COR audit experience with a proven track record.
Knowledge of ACSA would be an asset.
Excellent communication skills.
Valid Class 5 Drivers Licence.
Self-starter with the ability to perform in a fast paced environment.
Excellent attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
Working knowledge of Health and Safety committees.
