Medicine Hat, AB – March 6, 2025 – In partnership with the Medicine Hat Construction Association (MHCA), the Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA) successfully hosted the first-ever Medicine Hat Regional Safety Symposium on March 6, 2025. The event brought together construction professionals from across the region for a day of valuable safety discussions, best practices, and networking opportunities.
The symposium featured a variety of key sessions designed to enhance the knowledge of safety professionals and business owners in the construction industry. Topics included Hazard Management, where attendees explored effective strategies for identifying and managing hazards in the workplace, and Instruction by Request (IBR) Customization, with ACSA demonstrating how training programs can be tailored to suit specific organizational needs.
Other sessions addressed the Importance of Investigations, introducing simplified processes for conducting incident investigations. Through dynamic videos, the creative sentencing highlights showcased the potential hazards of excavation along with effective preventive measures. The Contractor Management session focused on a streamlined process for managing contractors and their obligations.
The symposium also featured a session on Confined Spaces with Gordon Walsh from Energy Safety Canada (ESC), who shared insights from a tragic event and introduced practical awareness tips for working safely in confined spaces.
Lastly, attendees learned about the Certificate of Recognition (COR) and Small Employer COR (SECOR) programs, highlighting their importance in promoting workplace safety and helping organizations meet industry standards.
As one attendee shared, “A lot of information has been provided, and the interactions have been very beneficial.” The Medicine Hat Regional Safety Symposium provided an excellent opportunity for professionals in the construction industry to gain knowledge, exchange ideas and enhance their understanding of workplace safety practices.
