Keeping up with industry’s needs can be challenging given the constant change and developments. One of those developments is in the area of silica exposure, an occupational health issue.
Silica is a mineral that forms the basis of rock and sand, and is found in many materials used in residential, industrial, and road construction. Over time, the exposure to silica dust can result in silicosis – lungs damaged to the point where it is difficult to breathe. Silicosis is linked to other respiratory problems, such as bronchitis, tuberculosis, and lung cancer. The disease can be fatal.
Over recent months, the ACSA has been developing its Silica Awareness course. Throughout October, the course will undergo final development and testing. Once complete, we will make announce its availability through our social media channels on Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn. We will also include the announcement in our Your ACSA Update newsletter and feature it on our course registration webpage.
