In conjunction with their Day of Mourning Ball Hockey Tournament on April 29th, the Edmonton RSC also presented a scholarship to the first recipient of their Day of Mourning Scholarship with NAIT.

Niki Vailas received $1000 from the ERSC and NAIT to help her complete the Occupational Health & Safety Program at NAIT. The Award was based on her academic achievement as a second year student at NAIT, and also her essay submission on the topic of how a workplace tragedy affected her and how this altered her view on workplace safety.

In a thank-you letter, Niki said she was honored to be the recipient of the Day of Mourning Scholarship, with her goal of becoming an Occupational Health and Safety Professional becoming a reality at NAIT. She said that the without scholarship patrons willing to support OH&S education students such as herself, she would be unable to pursue her dream.

Scholarship applications for next year will be available as of January 1st via the NAIT website;  www.nait.ca/scholarships.
