The 2018 ACSA Conference – Safety Without Borders was ACSA’s biggest to date with over 500 attendees, 30 trade show exhibitors, and a content-packed program with more sessions than ever before. With 2018 being the ACSA’s 30th anniversary year, we felt it was timely to rename the conference and open it to company owners, senior managers, and owner-operators who might have an interest in their organization’s safety culture.

The results speak for themselves since the 2018 ACSA Conference attracted a newer and more diverse audience. Analysis shows this was a first-time experience of an ACSA-organized conference for more than 66% of attendees. Over 30 attendees were from outside Alberta, and 40% of attendees were from towns other than Edmonton, Calgary or Red Deer. The last time the conference was held in Calgary (in 2016), this number was just 13%.

Presentations related to the legalization of cannabis, new psychological standards, and changes to the OHS Act proved to be the most in-demand sessions. Attendees enjoyed Dr. Lionel Laroche’s Friday morning discussion around safety in multicultural workforces and Candice Robertson-Shattler’s workshop on Joint Worksite Health & Safety Committees.
