Webinar series on psychological health and safety

Alberta’s construction workers navigate a demanding and high-risk landscape, with mental health challenges compounded by a shortage of skilled tradespeople.

According to Statistics Canada:

  • 33% of men in the construction industry report poor mental health.
  • 64% of construction workers wished their employers did more to support their psychological health and safety.

Your ACSA is helping address these challenges, starting with a three-part webinar series on understanding psychological health and safety (PHS) in the Alberta construction industry. The series continues the conversation from last year’s sold-out conference.

Many factors inherent to the construction industry – such as long shifts, physically demanding tasks and tough work environments – heighten the risk of poor PHS. These issues, combined with social and personal factors, have contributed to men in trades experiencing the highest rates of substance use and addiction. These mental health challenges contribute to higher absenteeism, turnover rates, incidents and financial strain in construction workplaces.

Your ACSA’s PHS webinar series features foundational conversations between our CEO, Mark Hoosein, and industry leaders. Our vision is a construction industry where safety is foundational to everything we build. Join us as we explore this fundamental aspect of workplace health and safety.
